Problem
SD Yayasan IBA faced challenges in streamlining communication among school administration, teachers, and parents. Critical information, such as announcements and homework assignments, was often dispersed or difficult to access, hindering effective dissemination and creating a disconnected learning environment.
Goals
To develop a secure and reliable centralized mobile application for SD Yayasan IBA that facilitates efficient information exchange, ensuring timely delivery of important announcements and personalized homework notifications, ultimately fostering a more connected school community.

SD Yayasan IBA’s school staff (principals, teachers) and parents/guardians of elementary school students.
Research & Discovery
I conducted a thorough analysis of existing communication workflows at SD Yayasan IBA, identifying key pain points in delivering information and notifications to parents. This involved direct discussions with school representatives and several parents to understand their specific needs for a more structured and efficient platform. The insights gathered from this research formed the foundation for designing SIMAK’s core features, ensuring the developed solution was truly relevant and beneficial.

I developed SIMAK, a comprehensive Android mobile application built with Java for SD Yayasan IBA. This app serves as a central communication hub, significantly simplifying the exchange of vital information between the school and parents.

Role & Contributions
I was solely responsible for the entire project lifecycle of SIMAK, encompassing initial planning, system architecture design, full-stack (front-end and back-end) development using Java and the Android Framework, as well as comprehensive testing and deployment. My contributions ensured every aspect of the application functioned optimally and effectively met SD Yayasan IBA’s communication needs.
Results / Outcomes
The implementation of the SIMAK application at SD Yayasan IBA significantly enhanced communication efficiency between the school and parents. Parents now receive timely notifications for announcements and homework assignments, which were often missed previously. The application also reduced the school’s administrative burden in manual information distribution, allowing for a greater focus on teaching and learning activities. While specific metric data from 2018 is unavailable, this project qualitatively strengthened parent involvement in their children’s education and fostered a more connected school environment.
Learnings & Future Steps
The SIMAK project was an invaluable experience that deepened my understanding of end-to-end Android mobile application development and underscored the importance of effective client communication in translating their needs into concrete technical solutions. Moving forward, the application could be further enhanced with direct in-app chat features between teachers and parents, integration of student grade report modules, or meeting scheduling functionalities to further refine the school communication experience.
